Eat More | Charge Less
For Lance Haidet, prepping for long gravel and cyclocross races takes mind, body, and tech. He begins by building multiple routes on his Karoo, connecting roads and trails typically out of reach on shorter forays. Then, he rides a ton and eats even more. Before Unbound this year, he logged 18, 22, 30, and 21-hour weeks on the bike. Although big training blocks are exhausting, Lance finds them super cool – homing in on the goal of testing limits and discerning recovery techniques.
"Each of those weeks included at least one ride over six hours, with my longest training day being an 8.5-hour mixed-surface ride at the end of that 30-hour week."
As for the technical aspect of training, Lance — a mechanical engineer — appreciates Karoo’s screen quality, mapping functionality, and training features. Sweet functionality was worth the slightly shorter battery life, he thought. Now with enhanced Battery Save Mode, Lance can easily create a profile to get 35+ hours of ride time on a single charge, meaning Lance will tackle his longest week of training or biggest race without having to plug in his Karoo. He’ll still have to eat a ton.
